Marie Antoinette by Elf-in-mirror Marie Antoinette by Elf-in-mirror
Alternative title: "So let them eat cake...!"

Note to all history-nerds : (no offence, I am one too!) I know very well that Marie Antoinette did not look like this, nor did she say the famous cake- phrase. And so forth.

Just felt like drawing something kitchy- clichè-ish, and this is what manifested itself on my screen.

The...pinkest... picture I've ever made.

Well,I must say that the term "history-nerd" ISN'T AT ALL APPROPRIATE!The correct term is PASSIONATE OF HISTORY and if you are one,YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT VERY WELL!Also, regarding what you said about Marie Antoinette:firstly,SHE LOOKED LIKE THAT in some aspects of her appearance like her eyes and even her hair! Then, while she probably didn't say the phrase with the cake,SHE WAS JUST THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO COULD HAVE SAID THAT!
And I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND why do you say that your drawing it's "kitchy and cliche-ish" when,in fact,IT'S NOT LIKE THAT!It's a very nice drawing. You diminish your own work!:( (Sad)

NO,her "goodness and virtues" DID NOT CONQUERED ALL HEARTS!Roll Eyes On the contrary,SHE LOST THE HEARTS of the people of France,if you look at the way in which she had ended her reign and her life!SHE DIDN'T POSSESED MANY VIRTUES and she was a poor queen!

She was not a poor queen. She ruled in a time of poverty, strife, and a bad harvest.

Marie Antoinette did nothing wrong.

Oh,yes,SHE WAS A POOR QUEEN!She wasn't interested in the poverty of the people and SHE DID NOTHING TO EASE ITS CONDITION,on the contrary! And the bad harvest existed only in a year or two,not during her entire reign!
Marie Antoinette DID A LOT OF THINGS WRONG as a queen!

> "She wasn't interested in the poverty of the people and SHE DID NOTHING TO EASE ITS CONDITION"

At the fireworks celebrating the marriage of the young prince and princess in May 1774, there was a stampede in which many people were killed. King Louis and the Queen gave all of their private spending money for a year to relieve the suffering of the victims and their families.

The Queen taught her daughter Madame Royale to wait upon peasant children, to sacrifice her Christmas gifts so as to buy fuel and blankets for the destitute, and to bring baskets of food to the sick. Marie-Antoinette took her children with her on her charitable visits.

You know nothing, and speak on topics of which you have minimal understanding.

> "And the bad harvest existed only in a year or two,not during her entire reign!"

And it was in those years that the revolution intensified.

> "Marie Antoinette DID A LOT OF THINGS WRONG as a queen!"

She really didn't.

IT IS YOU WHO KNOW NOTHING and speak on topics of which YOU HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING AT ALL!
You don't even know the date when the marriage between Louis Auguste(the future Louis XVI) and Marie Antoinette was celebrate:IT WAS IN MAY 1770,NOT IN 1774!And,of course,at that time Louis WAS NOT KING,he was only the Dauphin and Marie Antoinette WAS NOT QUEEN,she was only the Dauphine! And in fact it was only Louis Auguste who gave his spending money to ease the sufferings of the victims!
The fact that Marie Antoinette made some charitable visits together with her children,MADE NO DIFFERENCE FOR THE GENERAL POOR SITUATION of the people of France! As a queen,SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PREOCCUPIED WITH THE FATE OF THE ENTIRE FRENCH PEOPLE!And SHE WASN'T!She was frivolous, careless and she wasn't interested in trying to ease the suffering of THE PEOPLE IN GENERAL!She spended large amounts of money on dresses, shoes and all of that and she intervened in favour of her friends so that those can receive large sums of money, pensions and high-placed jobs, thus burdening the crown's expenses and, naturally, its debts.
IT WASN'T in "those years that the revolution intensified"!WHAT A NONSENSE!The revolution HADN'T EVEN BEGUN IN THOSE YEARS!How in the world can be intensified if it hasn't begun yet?
YES,SHE DID MUCH WRONG,that's how the things really were! And if you keep deny them,THAT WON'T CHANGE THE FACTS!

I know far more about the monarchy and the revolution than you do.
The date of the wedding is irrelevant to the point that is being made.

> "And in fact it was only Louis Auguste who gave his spending money to ease the sufferings of the victims!"

Though he did do this, what you say is wrong.

> "The fact that Marie Antoinette made some charitable visits together with her children,MADE NO DIFFERENCE FOR THE GENERAL POOR SITUATION of the people of France!"

The poverty of the people was not a result of the wealth of either the monarchy or the nobility.

> "
IT WASN'T in "those years that the revolution intensified"!"

It was, actually. Without that harvest, the monarchy might have survived.

YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE MONARCHY OR THE REVOLUTION!
And to say that the date of the wedding is irrelevant MEANS ONLY THAT YOU WISH TO COVER YOUR IGNORANCE!It is VERY RELEVANT to the fact that YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT since you don't know a simple historical date!
Regarding Louis Auguste and those money I AM PERFECTLY RIGHT!
The poverty WAS A RESULT OF THE WEALTH OF THE NOBILITY WHO ENREACHED THEMSELVES ON THE BACK of the people! As for the monarchy, its support of the nobility and of the (high) clergy to the detriment of the French people and its failure to reform WAS ALSO THE CAUSE FOR THE POVERTY OF THE PEOPLE!
IT'S TOTALLY RIDICULOUS keep saying that the revolution "intensified",WHEN IT DIDN'T EVEN STARTED YET!:D (Big Grin) And regarding that poor harvest,NO,even with a good harvest not only in that year, but in several successive years,THE MONARCHY WOULDN'T HAVE SURVIVED!The problems and the faults of the French monarchy were far more profound than one or two bad harvests and came from a long time in the past! The only way in which the monarchy might have survived(even in spite of several bad harvests) WAS TO ACCEPT THE REVOLUTION and the changes that this one had brought for France!

I LOVE the way you've depicted her here... Almost Marilyn Monroe-esqe. It suits her character well, but I'd never thought of that myself. :)
