Erik - the Phantom. by Elf-in-mirror Erik - the Phantom. by Elf-in-mirror
More Phantom-fanart.
Meet Erik, aka the Opera Ghost, aka the Phantom of The Opera.

Somewhat darker than what what you've come to expect from me, I suppose. But I've just reread the book, which is so very, very sad. Wonderful, brilliant, but -alas - very, very sad. I'm always bawling like an idiot by the epilogue.

And no, this is definitely neither the Gerard Butler-Phantom nor the general A.L.Webber-Phantom. This is Leroux-Erik, or Kay-Erik, if you're familiar with that version. Hence; full-face deformity, no nose, and generally..."le mort vivant". If you don't know Webber, Leroux or Kay, or POTO in general, well... go get aquainted with them! For now, all you need to know is that Erik is a terribly deformed guy who lives under the Garnier opera house in Paris. See, my description is awful. Now you need to read the book to make up for it.

Oh, and this version of Erik is heavily influenced by the the artwork of the amazingly talented :iconmuirin007: . She has some absolutely sublime POTO-fanart. Go see her gallery, you wont regret it.

And, finally, some more phantom-ish stuff:

I love the emotion you capture in this--he doesn't look angry or frightening...just terribly, terribly sad. Beautiful. <3

LOL, I also sob like a baby at the end of Leroux's book. How can you not?! :)

I LOVE this Erik. He is so full of expression! Is this charcoal? I love the black and white contrast. Beautifully done and FAVED! :happybounce:

It's actually digital, but I tried to make it look somewhat traditional -  so I'm really glad you asked!

Yeah, who can't sob by the end of Leroux? The appendix really gets to me, too. The part where Erik's body is found at the fountain where he'd held the fainted Christine in his arms.... Heh, I can skip the entire book and go straight to the end -  and still cry my eyes out. Same goes for Les Miserables and Jane Eyre.

Uhm, sorry for bugging you with my weird and antiquated literary tastes. What I really wanted to say was: THANK YOU so much for you comment and fav! :) -

THIS IS SO AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL! Such soft coloring gives the image the feel of loneliness and sadness in which is just what you were trying to portray, Oui? For your Phantom is perfect, Just the way i imagine him! I Love the slender face that could have been handsome if it were not for fates ill striking hand. For me looks as if (in the musical) when Christine had left him behind. He looks defeated, but accepting his fate.

And don't worry I am very familiar with the novel, not just the musical. I have always appreciated the full facial/ skeletal deformity over the musical's deformity, despite my love for the half mask. If it were a perfect world I would have a half face deformity, so i can have my half mask, but have the deformity itself be skeletal looking.

But back to your picture, it does resemble Muirin007's work greatly, but it stil is unique. much like her work you did the same facial shape but I do love your soft and digital shading. I can't eve put into words how beautiful i think this piece is. Officially this is one of my favorite POTO fan arts.

Oh, thank you! It was my first try at a noseless, "morte vivant"- Erik, so... I'm glad you like it! (and who'd have known _not_ dawing a nose is actually harder than _drawing_ a nose! ) :p

Very nice for a first attempt! I had my first go at it this past winter~ I posted it on d A, I think... I was pleased with it, but I think I would like to try again and improve! ;D XD
And, oh my goodness, yes! The lack of a nose is oddly more challenging than a nose itself!
